History of WFAA
From the East:
Follow the M4 over the Severn Bridge (note, toll at Bridge) and exit at Junction 33. From there, follow the local directions below
From the North and Midlands:
Follow the M6 south to Birmingham and get on the M5 for the South West. Take the M50 Junction 8 and this will lead you to the M4. Take the M4 Westbound to Junction 33. From there, follow the local directions below.
From the West and Southern Ireland:
From Fishguard or Swansea ferry ports, follow the signs to the M4. Take the M4 Eastbound to Junction 33. From there, follow the local directions below.
From the South West:
Take the M5 North-east bound to Junction 18A. Take the M49 signposted for South Wales. From the M49, take the M4 Westbound which will take you over the Severn Bridge (note, toll at Bridge) and exit at Junction 33. From there, follow the local directions below.
Local Directions:
The directions below will take you from the M4 at Cardiff West to the Field Archery Course at Fonmon. Below the directions is a map of the area. If you would prefer to print off the directions, please click here for the pdf version.
Exit the M4 at Junction 33 and head for Barry along the A4232.
After approximately 3 miles, take exit for Barry (A4050)
Follow A4050 for approximately 4 miles through 5 roundabouts and take the A4226 on the 6th
roundabout (heading for Cardiff International Airport)
Continue on A4226 through Barry, past the Cwm Ciddy pub until you come to a mini roundabout.
Take the 2nd exit, heading for Llantwit Major on B4265.
Follow B4265 through the large roundabout (BAMC servicing plant on your left) and
foll ow road for 1.5 miles, under the bridge and down a long gradient.
At bottom of gradient take left turn towards Rhoose and East Aberthaw. Follow this road for
800 yards up the hill and turn left into Castle Road.
Follow Castle Road for 0.25 miles and turn left into Fonmon Castle Estate.
Proceed through castle grounds and continue through the gate until you arrive at the rear of the
castle, adjacent to the orchard.
(This exit is via culverhouse cross roundabout)
Note: Do not take Fonmon turnoff from B4265
Please drive at no more than 5mph through the castle grounds
