The WFAA had its largest presence for many years at the English National Championships on the 9th and 10th of September. The EFAA's showpiece tournament was held at March Hare Archers in Throckmorton, Worcestershire and was fully booked well in advance. The weather was good and March Hare's famous cross winds were nowhere to be found. This accounted for some excellent scores.

The tournament was also blessed with lots of archery retailers being present including Merlin, Centre Shot, Blackrock, Alternative Services and The Archery Company. This was a welcome sight for Richard Doore whose stabiliser extension came apart on the course - he was able to walk just 50 yards to buy a new one!

The star of the Welsh team was Louis Lagoutte who shot the round of his life on Saturday to break Dean Penrose's Welsh Hunter record in the CMBBR division. Louis, who shoots for Zenith Archers, has made great strides this year having posted a number of steadily rising scores throughout. This continual improvement earned Louis a place on the Wales squad in May. Day 2 saw Louis put in another strong performance on the Field round to win his group and complete his best tournament performance to date.

This year's tournament saw the introduction of the Anglo-Welsh Challenge Trophy. The trophy is contested by teams from England and Wales and the aim is to develop Welsh attendance at the National Championships and enable direct competition between the two nations. The Welsh team were:

FU - Richard Doore (shooting up from FSR)
FS - Steve Lloyd
LB - Steve Hepburn
BB - Ben Lawson (shooting up from BH)
BH - Gary Hart (c)

England's strength in depth told this year as the England team won the trophy for the first time.

The WFAA would like to thank the EFAA for once again putting on an excellent tournament. We would also like to thank Greene King Brewery in Bury St Edmunds for sponsoring the Challenge Trophy and Kings Forest Bowmen for securing that sponsorship.
