The WFAA is proud to announce that the Welsh and Open Field Archery Championships will once again be held at our flagship course at Fonmon Castle in the Vale of Glamorgan. Together, with Scotland's Red Gauntlet course, Fonmon ranks as one of the most difficult and challenging field courses in the country.

This, we hope, will ensure a good competition and plenty to think about whilst on the course. The tournament will follow the usual format of 1 hunter round and 1 field round. There will be ample car parking, toilet facilities and hot and cold catering on site throughout the weekend.

Please see the links to the right for more detailed information about how to enter, how to find the course, local accommodation and transport links. We will be updating this page almost daily over the coming weeks so you can keep an eye on the entry list as it grows and keep abreast of developments on the news column below.

We look forward to seeing you at the tournament!

A Few Subtle Changes!
Obviously with all of our recent international tournaments being held at Fonmon, there is a danger that some of you might become too familiar with the course. We have made some slight changes to some of the targets just to make things more interesting. Nothing too obvious though! Good shooting!

The last Welsh Champs at Fonmon?
With it looking likely that WFAA will have up to three new courses opening within the year, the question on everyone's mind is, Will this be the last Welsh Champs at Fonmon for a few years? If all goes to plan, and the news courses are opened, then yes. Either way, this year's tournament will be one to remember as we build towards EFAC 09. Book yourself in today for what promises to be a good weekend!

Fonmon Course gets the thumbs up!
WFAA chairman Mathew Symmonds and General Secretary Mark Lunn toured Fonmon on the 7th of April to verify its readiness for the tournament. We are happy to report that all of the major work will be completed within the week and the course is in good shape for the tournament! Well done and thanks to all the members whose hard work has paid dividends once again.

Tournament Promises to be an International Affair:
For some years now, archers from England have travelled to Wales in numbers to shoot for the Welsh Open Championships. This year promises to be a truly British affair with archers from Scotland joining the party! There will be a welcome in the hillsides for all of our visitors!

Evening Meal on Saturday 21st of April
The traditional evening meal will be taking place again this year and the venue is The Green Dragon Inn as per last year.

Last year's meal was a tremendous success and our best yet. With a friendly atmosphere at this historical inn and a specially priced menu for the dinner, members and guests alike reported the meal to be an outstanding success.

This year we have again arranged for a special menu in order to keep the cost down. If you are staying locally and wondering how to spend you Saturday evening, please join us for a chat and a bite to eat at The Green Dragon.

If you wish to attend the meal, simply tick the box on your entry form and we will reserve your seat. All meals are to be paid individually on the night. Directions to The Green Dragon will be provided at registration on Saturday morning.

Features:
Fonmon's most famous, or perhaps notorious, shot is the shockingly steep target No 17 (formerly target No 10). Shot from 65 yards on the field round, this target is an extremely challenging shot, but not impossible to score well on. Once mastered, shooting this target is a very satisfying experience.

Since 2003 we have installed over 80 reinforced steps as well as shooting platforms to make this shot easier to shoot and safer to approach. We have also undertaken some work to drain the clay soil on this target to firm up the ground underfoot.

Good shooting!
