The WFAA is proud to present the Welsh Open 3D Championships. This is the first time we have hosted such an event and we are aiming to make the event as enjoyable as possible for our members and for visiting members.

The hosts for this tournament will be Hawk Archers and this will be the first time we have held a WFAA event at their course in Tal-y-Coed. The course we will be shooting forms part of the area which will play host the the European Field Archery Championships in July 2009.

In order to encourage competition, this event is fully open this year to all archers who are members of an IFAA affiliated governing body.

In order to gauge the best possible combination we have chosen to one round which is not IFAA approved, but which, we hope will appeal both to field archers who have not partaken in bowhunter shoots before as well to attract seasoned bowhunters.

The most important thing is that we attract as many archers as possible to this event. We hope this will mark the beginning of widespread involvement in the bowhunter side of the sport from our members. Please support us in the venture and take part.

Entry List
The entry list for the tournament has now been published. It will be updated daily throughout May and June. Please see the link on the right to view the entry list.

Backstops for each Target
We are aware that many of you will not have  shot at unmarked distances before. There is really nothing to worry about in this regard but foam butts will be placed behind all of the targets anyway to prevent damage to arrows where the distance is misjudged.

Camping Available at the Course
You will be able to camp at the course for £2.00 per night.  There will be running water and a toilet block. Please pay on registration.

Useful Information:

Facilities
Hawk Archers have been developing their course and its facilities for the last few years and they have achieved a lot in this short time.

The club has a permanent toilet block, ample car parking and catering will be provided for the tournament. Practice butts will be provided for the shoot.

The Shoot Format
Day 1 will be a Marked 2 shot 3D round. This round will be exactly the same as the unmarked IFAA 2 shot round except that the distances will be marked. The aim of shooting this round for the first day is to encourage field archers who have not previously shot 3D rounds. This round is usually only shot from unmarked distances but in this instance the distances will be marked to help the archers who do not have experience in shooting unmarked rounds.

Day 2 will be a 3 shot unmarked 3D round. This will effectively be an unmarked Big Game round except that we will be shooting at 3D targets instead of paper faces. The 3D animals will conform to IFAA size groups for the Big Game round. This will be the same as that shot at the IFAA World 3D Champs last year.
