What is the WFAA Field Masters Tour?
The tour is designed to test the overall skills of field archers over a variety of 5 different rounds. The aim is to determine who is the overall Field Master in each shooting style. The tournament will take the form of 5 one day shoots and the aim is to use several different courses to provide variety of venue as well as rounds shot.

Shoot Dates
Each round is named after a famous Welsh hero. The dates are designed to avoid the busiest shooting times of the year as follows:

Llewelyn Fawr Shoot - International Round - 16th March - Fonmon North Course
Llewelyn the Great was the prince of Gwynedd during the twelfth century. During his life he became a great warrior, defeating armies of both King John and later later Henry III. At each victory he increased the size of his kingdom. When he died in 1240, he had united much of Wales and is still viewed as Wales' greatest ever ruler. His symbol is his castle which still stands in the village of Dolwyddelan, in North Wales.

Fonmon North Course is characterised by its steep terrain and a majority of shots that use the landscape to make  some very challenging shots. Archers travel from all over the world to shoot this famous course. Just to make things a little different, a few of the targets have been reworked to ensure that even those who shoot here regularly will have a lot to think about on the 16th of March.

Full catering, a chemical toilet and practice butts will be provided. Archers are recommended to wear stout footware as the course can be slippery at this time of the year.

St David Shoot - Expert Round - 17th August - Draig Goch, Wrexham
St David is the patron Saint of Wales and lived during the sixth century. He was educated at the monastery of Hen Fynyw and later founded several churches throughout Wales, the most famous being Glyn Rhosyn, the site where St David's Cathedral now stands. Dewi was also the grandson of Ceredig, who was ruler of the princedom of Ceredigion in West Wales. His symbol is the dafodil.

Owain Glyndwr Shoot - Hunter Round - 21st September - March Hare, Pershore, near Worcester
Glyndwr lived in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and is credited as having united Wales. Marcher Lord of Powys, Glyndwr became embroiled in a land dispute with the Lord of nearby Ruthin, a royalist. When Glyndwr's protests to King Edward IV fell on deaf ears, he took the law into his own hands, proclaiming Welsh independence. Through a combination of Welsh lords proclaiming allegiance to him and some bloody encounters with Edward's armies, Glyndwr eventually ruled the whole of Wales. He was crowned king in 1404. His symbol is the red dragon.

Hywel y Dda Shoot - 12th October - Marked Forester, Fonmon South Course
Hywel y Dda was the tenth century king of
deheubarth, the south-western area of Wales which is now Dyfed and Carmarthenshire. Hywel is credited with creation of the first regular legal system, the basis of the modern British legal system. His symbol is therefore the scales of justice.

Caradog Shoot -  Marked Animal Round - 17th February -  Zenith Archers, Hay on Wye
Caradog Ap Ynyr was the fifth century king of Gwent. He was said to have lived in Caerwent, near the village of Crick. His symbol is the bell which was cast in his honour and which hangs in St David's Cathedral in Penbrokeshire.

The Hay on Wye course is a 14 target course which has been open for approximately 3 years. It is run by the local club Zenith Archers. As a course, it is amongst the best you will ever shoot for variety. It has areas of flat and slopes ranging from gentle to quite steep. The course builders have used the landscape cleverly to make the course one of immense variety, with just about every type of shot included. There will be car parking, toilet and catering facilities on the day.

The shoot will also include a cooked breakfast from 8.30am on the day at the course and hot and cold food and drinks will be available throughout the day.
